What does the law say about transporting dogs on a cargo bike?

Am I even allowed to bring my dog along on the cargo bike? The short answer is: yes. Section 28 of Germany's Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) governs transporting dogs on a bicycle, stating that a dog may ride either on or in the bicycle, and may also run alongside on a lead while riding – provided that this poses no danger to itself or to other road users. In addition, the owner must be able to control the dog while riding, for example to prevent it from injuring itself in the wheels while running alongside on a lead.
